Auctions whirled to life this weekend and real estate punters strolled continuously out of open for inspections in the Inner West, a proud pocket of Melbourne. The high stream of foot traffic at open for inspections shows a continuing of the strong interest that typified the market in 2013.
In a legendary position, a large crowd of approximately 50 people gathered in the established wide streetscape and witnessed the first auction for 2014 at 2/54 Yarra Street in Williamstown. Compton Green Partner and Sales Executive, Steele Sexton said it’s early days but the first auction for the year highlighted the fact that the market is off to a healthy start. “Two bidders were hotly contesting this property and it sold for $372,500 (the marketed price was between $330,000-$360,000). A young Williamstown local purchased it and vendors are over the moon,” he said.
At “Ashton Villa,” 64 Pasco Street in Williamstown, 16 groups went through this bluestone Victorian which graces the corner of a prestigious street.The Australian Heritage Council referred to this magnificent home as being significant as it is one of a small number of pre-1860 dwellings in Williamstown and the State of Victoria. Recently, Williamstown reached a median price of exactly $1 million, the bayside suburb joins a growing list of suburbs, including Malvern, Albert Park and Fitzroy to sit at or above the $1million mark.
