A Footscray Institution

Olympic Doughnuts is a Footscray icon housed in a humble caravan. Pillow soft on the inside with a squirt of jam and a dusting of grainy sugar makes them famous across Melbourne. Nick has been working here for the past 33 years and if there’s a line just be patient as it’s definitely worth the wait. Olympic uses a dolphin-shaped jam gadget and individually sugars each order right in front of your eyes.

Food for Thought

“It’s been there since I was first allowed to go out on my bike alone at 12 years old. I’m 50 next year and might go buy a bag for nostalgia. Nick has been there since day one.”

“Best jam donuts in western melbourne.. been having their donuts since I arrived in Australia.”

“I enjoy a good dose of nostalgia. I skip every impulse in favour of a deep fried, sugary deliciousness.”

“These are the best jam donuts I’ve ever had, made with a proper donut batter and a zingy jam filling.  Buying donuts from this van is a real experience that everyone must do at least once.”

“I’ve been to Footscray just to get Olympic Doughnuts before. I’m not sure if I should be proud of this fact or if me and my seven excess kilos should be ashamed!”

“Nails it every time. Worth the drive from Pascoe Vale.”

“You get off the train at Footscray Station and head out towards Irving St when all of a sudden, your olfactory system detects a strong aroma wafting in the air. It continues to increase in intensity until you notice the culprit of the smell: Olympic Doughnuts.”

“Olympic Doughnuts is a real throw back, back to when the world was a simpler and less cynical place. They come from a time way before the American culinary imperialism of Starbucks, Krispy Kreme or Donut King, back even before McDonalds or Hungry Jacks hit Australian shores.”

“She plucked a freshly fried ball of dough and swiftly injected it with berry jam using a dolphin shaped jam dispenser that I can only imagine is custom made!”
